Dear Friends, Founded in 2005, School of Philosophy of Renmin University of China, whose predecessor was Department of Philosophy founded in 1956, is one of the largest centers for philosophy in the world and one of the strongest in China, with an international reputation for excellence in both teaching and research. At present, the faculty consists of 75 members, including 40 professors, covering a vast range of subjects within philosophy. The School is a national base for cultivating talents and scientific research in basic discipline (philosophy) of liberal arts, a key base of “Project 211” and of “Project 985” in philosophy and social sciences, sponsored by the Ministry of Education. The School was approved as class A disciplinary unit authorized to grant doctoral degree and set up post-doctoral workshops. It also includes the Research Center for Ethics and Moral Construction and the Institute of Buddhism and Theory of Religious Study, which are the key research bases for humanities and social sciences sponsored by the Ministry of Education, and Institute of Confucianism Studies, a key base of the University. The School consists of Department of Philosophy and of Religious Studies, including 14 teaching and researching units of Marxist philosophy, Chinese philosophy, Western philosophy, Ethics, Aesthetics, Logic, Philosophy of Science and Technology, Philosophy of Management, Political Philosophy, Oriental Philosophy, Buddhism, Religion Theory, Religious Cultures, and Common Required Courses. The School sets up 3 undergraduate specialties (Philosophy, Ethics, and Religious Studies), 9 master and doctoral programs (including Marxist philosophy, Chinese philosophy, Western philosophy, Ethics, Philosophy of Science and technology, Logic, Aesthetics, Religious Studies, and Philosophy of Management), and accepts senior visiting scholars, students from overseas and Hong Kong , Macau and Taiwan of China. The School of Philosophy has cultivated more than ten thousand students, undertaken more than one hundred national and ministerial scientific research projects, and won many national and ministerial awards for teaching and scientific research achievements.
